KITCO FIBER OPTICS NAMED TO TOP 100 MILITARY TECHNOLOGY TRAINING LIST KITCO Fiber Optics has been named to the Military Training Technology “Top 100” List for 2005. The Top 100 is compiled by Kerrigan Media International and Military Training Technology magazine, and provides a listing of companies that have made a significant impact in the military training industry during the past year.
Military Training Technology invited almost 300 candidates to provide information for the awards and also invited any interested companies to apply. Based on submissions and additional information, the publication's editorial board and a panel of independent experts then selected 100 winners. Companies were selected based on various criteria, which, in part, included total military sales, end-user feedback, innovations and need for the solution.
Kerrigan cited KITCO for its accomplishments in the field of military training: “With the exponential increase of fiber optics across the military community, training for service and maintenance is more necessary. The U.S. Navy has again selected KITCO as the exclusive provider of the Fiber Optic Maintenance Technician Course, and the course is the only Naval Education and Training Command (NETC) approved fiber optic training course. KITCO Fiber Optics Graduates from VALET Program Virginia Beach, VA —KITCO Fiber Optics today announced its graduation from the Virginia Leaders in Export Trade (VALET) Program. KITCO's two-year participation in the program has helped it grow its international sales by over 100 percent. The VALET program, launched in January 2002 by the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP), assists exporters in the Commonwealth who have firmly established domestic operations and who are committed to international exporting as an expansion strategy. The first of its kind in the United States, VALET provides capital, expert guidance and concrete solutions for businesses committed to expanding into international markets.
“International sales contribute significantly to the success of our company,” said W. Sheppard Miller, III, KITCO Fiber Optics CEO. “Participation in the VALET Program accelerated our plans to penetrate international markets. This program provided valuable services, capital, and the opportunity to leverage VEDP-developed relationships around the world, helping us to support our current international customers and attract new international business. Few government-sponsored programs offer such an immediate opportunity for a win-win between the public and private sector.”
“Globalization and international marketing are major challenges to a company such as KITCO,” stated Alan M. Sonner, who led KITCO's VALET Program initiative. “Balancing our domestic and international customer base by tapping into markets across our borders and overseas is almost as important as balancing the mix between commercial and military customers. Having the resources of the VALET Program at our disposal as we were beginning to export our products facilitated and helped us focus and discipline our efforts and we are now prepared to launch our Exporting Strategic Initiative in 2004.”
“The VALET Program accelerates the development of international business by connecting companies with the practical tools needed for successful export sales,” said Kimberly Weir, VALET Program Manager. “VEDP was pleased with KITCO's success, and we look forward to partnering together in the future to increase international exports from Virginia.”
