COURSE OVERVIEW:
TOur mission is
to provide your organization with the knowledge and capability to
successfully supervise and inspect the onboard installation of
military approved fiber optic components in accordance with MIL-STD
2042B (SH) and NAVSEA standard item #009-73.
The purpose
of this seminar is to establish an understanding of the requirements
and standards for installation of fiber optic components onboard
military platforms in accordance with MIL-STD 2042B (SH). This will
insure quality of workmanship being applied to fiber optic systems
being installed on naval ships. Additionally, we will discuss
current commercial “COTS” standards as they pertain to cable
construction and testing criteria. Those in attendance will also
have “hands-on” experience using Navy approved optical test
equipment. Test equipment to include: Visual Fault Locators (VFLs),
Light Source and Power Meters, Optical Time Domain Reflecometers (OTDRs).
Lectures will include: Fiber optic theory, fiber optic link
topology, light propagation, fiber and cable types, Safety, Blown
Optical Fiber (BOF), and testing. A breakdown of the MIL-STD 2042
will instruct your organization on the “do’s and don’ts” during and
after installations. Participants will be taught proper testing
techniques and methodology. Actual pictures will be shown depicting
improper installs on navy ships that demonstrate the need for
MIL-STD compliance and the short and long-term effects they will
have on the fleet.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
Anyone charged
with the supervision or inspection of fiber optic installations with
military fiber optic products, designers, planners, Supervisors of
Ships (SUPSHIP), inspectors and Quality Assurance (QA) personnel.
RECOMMENDED PREREQUISITES:
None.
